Arriving from Sydney via Bathurst, or Canberra via Cowra and Blayney, you enter the old gold mining town of Lucknow (where you will find Toogoolah). Turn right, as you enter, on to Emu Swamp Road. Follow to the T junction at the end. Turn left and follow 1km to Mayfield. Turn right here on to Stagecoach Road, 700m and you are at Moody’s.

Coming from Orange, take the Bathurst Road to d’Aquino’s Wine shop (just past Macca’s), turn left on to Cox Avenue, follow to end and turn right on to Icely Road. Follow for 9km, passing or visiting Indigo Ridge, to the bottom of the hill by Mayfield and turn left on to Stagecoach Road.

Emu Swamp is an area east of Orange with rolling hills and magnificent landscapes in all seasons, and a circuit of Emu Swamp makes a great cellar door tour – via Icely Road, Emu Swamp Road and back to Orange via the Bathurst Road (Mitchell Highway). As well as the cellar doors, there are the beautiful and highly acclaimed Schoolhouse Restaurant at Mayfield, the old stone church in the fields at Byng and a walk round the old gold mines at Lucknow to add to a satisfying day!
